What's Happening?
Saudi Arabia has inaugurated the Ancient Kingdoms Festival 2025 in AlUla, as part of the AlUla Moments schedule. This government-supported initiative aims to expand cultural tourism and foster deeper engagement
with the region's archaeological heritage. The festival features a 3D reconstruction of the Late Iron Age western enclosure in the Dumat al-Jandal walled oasis, showcasing the historical significance of the area. The event is designed to attract international visitors and highlight Saudi Arabia's rich cultural and historical assets.
Why It's Important?
The Ancient Kingdoms Festival is a strategic move by Saudi Arabia to diversify its economy by enhancing cultural tourism. By promoting its archaeological heritage, the country aims to attract more international tourists, thereby increasing revenue from tourism. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which seeks to reduce dependency on oil and develop other sectors such as tourism. The festival not only boosts the local economy but also enhances Saudi Arabia's global cultural presence, potentially leading to increased international collaboration in archaeological research and cultural exchange.
