During treatment at Atrium Health Cabarrus, Walter went into cardiac arrest, requiring 60 minutes of CPR and advanced mechanical circulatory support, including ECMO. He spent nearly three months in intensive care at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center before receiving a heart transplant on July 6.
