What's Happening?
The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) recently conducted an online members' chat to discuss the People Pillar of its Strategic Plan 2026-30. The session, led by ICA Communications Officer Paco Núñez, emphasized strengthening leadership, supporting
women and young people, building new skills, sharing knowledge, and preserving cooperative heritage. ICA Africa is implementing the Africa Cooperative Entrepreneurship (ACE) program, selecting 15 youth from across the continent for a boot camp in Lusaka, Zambia. The Mapping International Cooperative Development Programs (MICDP) initiative was also highlighted, featuring 450 programs in around 80 countries. Additionally, the Cooperative Cultural Heritage Program (CCH) aims to identify key sites for the cooperative movement worldwide.

By investing in the next generation, the ICA aims to ensure that cooperatives remain a viable and preferred business model. The ICA plans to continue its initiatives under the Strategic Plan 2026-30, with upcoming events and programs aimed at furthering its goals. The ACE program will proceed with its boot camp in Zambia, and the MICDP will expand its database of cooperative programs. The ICA will also focus on promoting the Cooperative Cultural Heritage Program to preserve and highlight the historical significance of cooperatives worldwide. These initiatives are expected to foster greater engagement and participation in the cooperative movement, particularly among youth and women.
