earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in Counseling from Northwestern University in 1969. Her career began at Arlington Heights High School in 1963, and she later became the first female counselor at Harper College in 1967. After a hiatus to focus on her family, she returned to counseling at Elk Grove High School and concluded her career as a Professor at National Louis University in Chicago. Yates was also deeply involved in community service, holding roles such as PTA president, Girl Scout leader, and site director of Rainbows grief support for youth. Her strong Christian faith and dedication to helping others were central to her life.
