What's Happening?
Spanish company Recover has officially joined the T2T Alliance, a coalition of textile-to-textile recycling companies. This alliance, which includes other leading firms like Circ and Circulose, aims to influence
European Union policies to promote circularity in the textile industry. Recover will contribute its expertise in mechanized recycling of textile waste and large-scale production of recycled fibers. The alliance seeks to address traceability challenges posed by European initiatives such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Recover's CEO, Anders Sjöblom, emphasized the importance of collaboration to drive true textile recycling and influence policy-making to support the industry.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of Recover in the T2T Alliance is significant as it strengthens the coalition's ability to influence EU policies towards sustainable textile practices. This move is crucial as the EU is set to implement several legislative initiatives, including the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and the Circular Economy Act, which will transform the European fashion landscape. By enhancing traceability and transparency in the textile supply chain, the alliance aims to prevent misleading claims about recycled content and ensure sustainability claims are credible. This could lead to increased competitiveness and innovation in the textile recycling sector.
What's Next?
The T2T Alliance plans to work towards making textile circularity a key pillar of EU policy. This includes promoting changes to support a sustainable textile industry and informing policymakers about the real impact of sustainability legislation. The alliance will also work to eliminate obstacles hindering the growth of the T2T industry and support minimum legal requirements for recycled fiber content in new textile products. These efforts aim to ensure that the perspectives of textile recyclers are adequately represented in EU legislation.
