The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) in Nigeria is actively implementing reforms to professionalize the country's tourism and hospitality industry. Dr. Abisoye Fagade, the Director-General of NIHOTOUR, emphasized the importance
of these reforms during a session with the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism in Lagos. A key achievement is the establishment of Nigeria's first national register of tourism and hospitality professionals, which aims to enhance industry standards and public confidence. The institute has also expanded its training programs, increasing participation significantly across the country. NIHOTOUR plans to accredit private training institutions to deliver approved programs, focusing on regulation and certification. The reforms include strengthening the regulatory framework, establishing a tribunal for disputes, and encouraging professionalism in senior management appointments.
