Bridgeport Public Schools in Connecticut is set to expand its Wi-Fi and Internet services to reach public housing communities, thanks to a $714,456 grant from the state's Community Wi-Fi Grant Program. This initiative aims to provide reliable Internet access
to over 800 students living in public housing areas such as Trumbull Gardens, Charles F. Greene Homes, and parts of P.T. Barnum Apartments. The program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act Capital Projects Fund and is designed to enhance Internet infrastructure for work, education, health, and wellness. The expansion will allow students to access the school district's Wi-Fi from home, ensuring they can continue learning and stay connected beyond the classroom. Interim Superintendent Royce Avery stated that Wi-Fi access for these families will be free, and they can sign up through their local community housing authority office or use the eduroam network.
