What's Happening?
A free motorcycle safety training program, led by police officers, is set to begin in Hagerstown on May 1. The program, known as Maryland MOTORS (Motor Officers Teaching Other Riders Safety), will be held
at the D.M. Bowman Family Workforce Training Center. It includes classroom instruction, a mentored street ride, and low-speed practice on a closed range. The initiative is part of the Maryland Department of Transportation's 'Serious About Safety' campaign and aims to enhance road safety for motorcyclists of all experience levels.
Why It's Important?
Motorcycle safety is a critical issue, as motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to accidents and injuries on the road. Programs like Maryland MOTORS provide essential training that can help reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall road safety. By offering free training, the program makes safety education accessible to a wider audience, potentially saving lives and reducing healthcare costs associated with motorcycle accidents. This initiative also reflects a commitment to public safety and community engagement by local law enforcement.
