What's Happening?
The European Space Agency (ESA) is preparing to launch the HENON mission, a CubeSat equipped with a UK-built magnetometer designed to provide extended warnings for geomagnetic storms. Scheduled for early 2027, HENON will travel to a point ten times farther
from Earth than current solar storm sentinels, offering hours of warning instead of minutes. This mission aims to improve the ability of power grid operators, satellite controllers, and airline dispatchers to prepare for major geomagnetic events.
