What's Happening?
The city of St. Charles is moving forward with plans to redevelop the site of its former police station, located along the Fox River. The site has been vacant since 2019, following the police department's relocation. After rejecting previous redevelopment
proposals in 2021, the city conducted a feasibility study to explore potential uses for the site. The study considered options such as reusing the existing structure, creating open space for community events, or developing commercial or residential properties. Following public engagement efforts, including workshops and surveys, the city has decided to pursue a programmed open space concept. The City Council has expressed interest in collaborating with the St. Charles Park District to develop the site, which may include amenities like a skate path, bandshell, small shops, and space for farmers markets. Initial site plan concepts and cost estimates are being prepared for council review, with discussions set to begin in August.
