What's Happening?
As the Juneteenth federal holiday approaches, President Trump's approval rating among Black voters has dropped significantly, according to national tracking surveys. The approval rating, which was in the mid-30s in early 2025, has now fallen to the mid-to-low
teens. Analysts attribute this decline to rising prices, job losses, and backlash against the administration's policies on immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). A New York Times/Siena poll indicates that 83% of Black Americans disapprove of Trump's job performance, with 80% believing the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Why It's Important?
The declining approval rating among Black voters is critical as it could influence voter turnout and engagement in upcoming elections. Black voters are a key demographic in national electoral coalitions, and their dissatisfaction may impact the political landscape. The administration's policies and economic conditions are central to this shift, highlighting the importance of addressing these issues to regain support. The situation also underscores the broader challenges of maintaining diverse voter support amid contentious policy decisions.
