What's Happening?
Utah Valley University (UVU) students are expanding their worldviews through faculty-led study abroad programs. Since January, students have traveled to over a dozen countries, including Samoa, Japan, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Finland, Estonia, and the Faroe Islands. These programs offer academic credit and immersive learning experiences in fields such as health sciences, literature, and geology. Nursing students in Samoa conducted medical screenings for thousands, while biology students in Italy explored volcanic terrain. Art students in Paris created original works while touring cultural landmarks. The Office of Education Abroad at UVU manages these programs, providing support for students and faculty.
Why It's Important?
Study abroad programs are crucial for developing intercultural understanding and global perspectives among students. They enhance language skills, confidence, and networks, preparing students for a diverse and interconnected world. These experiences can lead to personal growth and professional opportunities, as students apply their learning in real-world contexts. By participating in these programs, UVU students gain unique insights and skills that can differentiate them in the job market and contribute to their academic and career success.
What's Next?
UVU plans to announce new faculty-led study abroad programs for summer 2026 at the Study Abroad Fall Expo on September 24 and 25. Students interested in participating are encouraged to meet with study abroad advisors to learn about application steps, financial options, and program timelines. As these programs continue to grow, UVU aims to offer more diverse and impactful international learning experiences.
