What's Happening?
Liverpool City Region has been selected as the first pilot area for an £85 million government-backed initiative aimed at industrializing and digitalizing construction in the UK. The program, known as the Industrialising and Digitalising Construction Challenge,
seeks to enhance productivity in housing and public infrastructure through the use of standardized offsite-manufactured components and improved digital coordination. The initiative is supported by the R&D Missions Accelerator Programme, funded by UK Research and Innovation, and will be implemented in collaboration with the Liverpool Combined Authority and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. Industry partners Onward Homes and Torus Developments will test this approach on two social housing projects in the region. The program aims to create a repeatable delivery model for social housing, with potential expansion to other public assets like schools and hospitals.
