What's Happening?
PowerUp America and Kempower are set to install 32 fast EV chargers across Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky as part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. The chargers will be
located in strategic areas to support local communities and facilitate long-distance travel. Each charger will deliver up to 400 kW, allowing for quick charging sessions. Payment options include contactless methods and a mobile app, ensuring convenience for users. The installation aims to fill gaps in rural areas, providing reliable access to fast charging.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of fast EV charging infrastructure is crucial for increasing electric vehicle adoption in the U.S. By providing quick and accessible charging options, PowerUp America is addressing one of the main barriers to EV ownership—range anxiety. This development supports the transition to cleaner transportation, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to environmental sustainability. The strategic placement of chargers near highways and rural areas ensures broader coverage and convenience for EV drivers.
What's Next?
PowerUp America plans to finalize site details and begin construction, with the goal of having all locations operational by 2026. As the NEVI program progresses, more sites may be announced, further expanding the charging network. This initiative could prompt other states and companies to invest in similar infrastructure projects, accelerating the shift towards electric vehicles nationwide.
