Creighton University Unveils $300 Million Project to Elevate Athletic Facilities

What's Happening?

Creighton University has unveiled a $300 million project aimed at transforming its athletic facilities. The 'Fly Together' initiative, supported by a $100 million donation from the Heider Family Foundation, will span 12 blocks on the east side of the campus, featuring 11 new or upgraded buildings and outdoor spaces. The project includes a state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center designed to serve the university's 300 athletes with facilities for strength and conditioning, nutrition, sports medicine, and academic support. Additionally, the Ruth Scott Training Center and DJ Sokol Arena will be renovated to support women's basketball and volleyball. The men's basketball team's McDermott Center will also see significant upgrades, enhancing its weight room, locker room, and practice courts.

The construction of a new softball field and baseball practice facility is already in progress. A two-story building for softball and baseball will include batting cages, team lounges, and locker rooms, providing much-needed practice space for teams participating in the College World Series. As the project advances, Creighton University expects its facilities to be among the best in the nation, enhancing its ability to compete with top-tier programs and potentially influencing other universities to invest similarly in their athletic infrastructures.
