Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) successfully rescued a unique population of Uncompahgre cutthroat trout from the Gold Mountain Fire in Ouray County. The team, consisting of 11 CPW staff, captured 103 trout from Nate Creek, which contain unique genetics
not found elsewhere. The fish were transported to a state fish hatchery for safekeeping. The rescue operation was conducted under challenging conditions, with the team navigating through an active wildfire zone.
