What's Happening?
Ubisoft is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Rayman series by re-releasing the Game Boy Color version of Rayman. This version, originally launched in 2000, will feature a new soundtrack and be branded under ModRetro's Chromatic line. The Chromatic is an FPGA-based Game Boy clone supported by ModRetro, allowing the re-release to be compatible with original Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance hardware, as well as the Analogue Pocket portable. The re-release will include a Rayman charm, adding a collectible aspect to the package.
Why It's Important?
The re-release of Rayman on Game Boy Color highlights the enduring popularity of retro gaming and the demand for nostalgic experiences among gamers. By partnering with ModRetro, Ubisoft taps into a niche market that values classic gaming hardware and experiences. This move also reflects the growing trend of re-releasing older games with updated features, catering to both longtime fans and new audiences. The collaboration with ModRetro, founded by Palmer Luckey, adds a layer of interest due to Luckey's controversial background in tech and politics.
