A network meta-analysis published in iScience has examined the effectiveness of different exercise types on various markers of metabolic syndrome. The study analyzed 53 randomized controlled trials involving 2,948 participants. It found that combined
aerobic and resistance training was most effective for improving body mass index, waist circumference, LDL cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose. Low-volume high-intensity interval training (HIIT) showed the greatest benefits for reducing total cholesterol, triglycerides, and diastolic blood pressure. Traditional Chinese exercises like tai chi and qigong were best for raising HDL cholesterol and lowering systolic blood pressure.
