The Trust for Public Land, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, has announced an agreement to purchase the 161-acre site of the former Golden Gate Fields horse racing track for $175 million. The site, which straddles the Berkeley-Albany border, is set to be
transferred to the East Bay Regional Park District. This transformation aims to create a new public park along the bay's eastern shore, enhancing access to outdoor spaces for residents. The East Bay Regional Park District will contribute $20 million towards the purchase, utilizing funds from a 2008 bond measure. The Stronach Group, the current owner, has agreed to demolish existing structures on the property as part of the deal.
