What's Happening?
Spanish company Recover has joined the T2T Alliance, a coalition of textile recycling companies aiming to influence European Union policies to accelerate circularity in the textile industry. The alliance,
which includes other leading recycling firms, seeks to ensure that textile-to-textile recycling companies are recognized and supported within the EU's political framework. Recover will contribute its expertise in mechanized recycling of cotton textile waste and large-scale production of recycled fibers to the alliance, helping address traceability challenges posed by European initiatives like the Digital Product Passport.
Why It's Important?
The textile industry is a significant contributor to environmental issues, and promoting circularity is crucial for sustainability. By joining the T2T Alliance, Recover is positioning itself to influence EU policies that support sustainable practices in the textile sector. The alliance's efforts to promote traceability and transparency in the supply chain could lead to more credible sustainability claims and prevent misleading information about recycled content. This move could drive innovation and investment in textile recycling, benefiting both the environment and the economy.
What's Next?
The T2T Alliance will work to promote the perspectives of textile recyclers within EU legislation and support minimum legal requirements for recycled fiber content in new textile products. Recover's involvement in the alliance may lead to increased collaboration with policymakers and stakeholders to advance circularity in the textile industry. The alliance's efforts could result in policy changes that support sustainable practices and enhance the competitiveness of the textile recycling sector.
