BQE Water Inc. has been awarded a significant contract to manage the operations and maintenance of the Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant, located 50 kilometers north of Vancouver. This contract, facilitated by Infrastructure BC on behalf of the British
Columbia government, marks the largest in BQE Water's history. The plant, which has been operational for 20 years, utilizes a High-Density Sludge (HDS) lime treatment process to neutralize acidity and remove heavy metals such as copper and zinc from mine water. This process prevents approximately 600 tons of heavy metal contaminants from entering the marine environment annually. BQE Water will take over the plant's operations on January 13, 2026, for a 20-year term, employing a team of six on-site, including two supervisors, supported by local engineers and technicians. The company plans to implement a Computerised Maintenance Management System to optimize operations and reduce costs.
