What's Happening?
Digicel Fiji has partnered with SPBD Microfinance Fiji to provide rural women entrepreneurs with access to financial services through the MyCash mobile money platform. This collaboration allows SPBD members to receive microloans directly to their MyCash wallets,
eliminating the need for long-distance travel to collect funds. The initiative includes QR Pay solutions, enabling members to transact as micro-merchants with waived transaction fees. SPBD founder Gregory Casagrande emphasized the goal of empowering women to sustain small enterprises, while Digicel Fiji CEO Farid Mohammed highlighted the impact on growth and resilience in remote communities.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it enhances financial inclusion for rural women in Fiji, providing them with tools to manage finances and grow their businesses. By integrating digital solutions, the initiative reduces barriers to accessing financial services, promoting economic empowerment and entrepreneurship among women. The collaboration also supports the broader goal of digital transformation in rural areas, potentially leading to increased economic activity and improved livelihoods. It underscores the role of technology in bridging gaps in financial accessibility and fostering community development.
