What's Happening?
Cathay is celebrating its 80th anniversary by launching a series of community initiatives aimed at uplifting 80,000 lives in 2026. The initiatives focus on youth development, sports, and arts and culture. Two new partnerships have been announced with
Rugby For Good and HandsOn Hong Kong. These partnerships were unveiled at a launch event attended by Cathay's Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau and Edward To, Director of Social Welfare of the Hong Kong SAR Government. The initiatives include the Cathay GET, SET, MOVE program, which engages students through rugby-based activities, and year-round volunteer efforts with HandsOn Hong Kong. Additionally, the Cathay I Can Fly program will continue to offer aviation-themed activities, including Aviation Explorer Days and the I Can Fly Youth Academy.
Why It's Important?
The initiatives underscore Cathay's commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement. By focusing on youth development, the programs aim to inspire and provide opportunities for young people, potentially influencing their career paths and personal growth. The partnerships with Rugby For Good and HandsOn Hong Kong highlight a collaborative approach to community service, encouraging broader participation in volunteer activities. These efforts not only benefit the individuals directly involved but also strengthen community ties and promote a culture of giving back. The initiatives could serve as a model for other corporations looking to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
What's Next?
Cathay plans to continue rolling out activities under the I Can Fly program throughout 2026, including additional Aviation Explorer Day weekends and the I Can Fly Youth Academy. These programs will offer immersive experiences in aviation, potentially inspiring more students to pursue careers in the industry. The ongoing collaboration with community partners suggests that Cathay will maintain its focus on empowering youth and fostering community engagement. The success of these initiatives could lead to further expansion and the development of new programs in the future.
