Asda is introducing electronic shelf edge labels (ESLs) across its largest and busiest Express convenience stores. This initiative involves the installation of approximately 2,800 ESLs per store, totaling over 700,000 across the rollout. The technology, developed in collaboration with VusionGroup, Renovotec, and HL Display, aims to streamline store operations by eliminating the need for manual price updates. Additionally, ESLs will display allergen information via QR codes, along with product cost, weight, and unit price. This move follows a successful three-month trial at Asda's Oxford Road store in Manchester. The rollout is part of Asda's broader strategy to open up to 20 new Express stores by the end of the year, each equipped with ESLs from the outset.
