What's Happening?
The Children's Center Utah has opened a new facility, the Kahlert Children's Mental Health Center, in Lehi, Utah County. This expansion aims to provide specialized mental health services for young children closer to home for families in the area. The center
offers outpatient services for children from birth to age six and plans to introduce a therapeutic preschool program in early 2027. The new location is expected to serve around 750 families annually, addressing the growing demand for mental health services in Utah County, which has the youngest median population in the U.S.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of mental health services is crucial in addressing the increasing demand for specialized care for young children in Utah County. By providing services closer to home, the center reduces the burden on families who previously had to travel to West Valley for care. This initiative is part of a broader effort to tackle the mental health crisis in Utah by offering early intervention and support for children and their families. The new facility's integration with pediatric medical care at Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital enhances the holistic approach to child health and well-being.
What's Next?
The Kahlert Children's Mental Health Center will continue to expand its services, with plans to open the therapeutic preschool program in 2027. The center aims to further extend its reach by establishing additional facilities in other parts of Utah, including Davis and Weber counties and St. George. The upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 1 will mark the official opening of the Lehi center, highlighting the organization's commitment to expanding access to mental health care across the state.
