What's Happening?
Capital Press is inviting farmers and ranchers to contribute to a special publication celebrating 250 years of American agriculture. The publication, set to release on July 3, will highlight the history of farming and ranching in the Pacific Northwest.
Farmers are encouraged to submit short stories, up to 200 words, detailing their family's farming history, along with digital photos. The deadline for submissions is June 12, and all entries will be published online, with selected stories appearing in the print edition. This initiative aims to honor the significant role agriculture has played in the nation's development, from the Revolutionary War to westward expansion.
Why It's Important?
This project underscores the vital role agriculture has played in shaping the United States, both economically and culturally. By documenting personal histories, Capital Press aims to preserve the legacy of farming families and their contributions to the nation's growth. This initiative provides a platform for farmers to share their stories, fostering a sense of community and continuity within the agricultural sector. It also serves as an educational resource, highlighting the evolution of farming practices and the challenges faced by past generations.
What's Next?
As the submission deadline approaches, farmers and ranchers will prepare their stories and photographs for inclusion in the publication. Capital Press will review submissions and select entries for the print edition. The final publication will be released on July 3, coinciding with the nation's Semiquincentennial celebrations. This project may inspire similar initiatives in other regions, encouraging a broader exploration of agricultural history across the country.
