What's Happening?
The Merck Foundation has announced a $22 million initiative, the Collaborative for Equity in Cardiac Care, aimed at improving cardiovascular care in the U.S. Over five years, the initiative will provide grants to 11 organizations to develop programs that
enhance access to high-quality, person-centered healthcare for heart disease patients. The initiative targets under-resourced communities, addressing both medical and social needs. The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity will serve as the National Program Office, offering technical assistance and fostering collaboration among grantees.
Why It's Important?
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., disproportionately affecting under-resourced communities. This initiative represents a significant investment in addressing healthcare disparities and improving outcomes for heart disease patients. By supporting community-based programs, the initiative aims to create sustainable and scalable solutions that could serve as models for other healthcare challenges. The collaboration with Johns Hopkins and other organizations highlights the importance of partnerships in tackling complex health issues and advancing public health equity.
