Bajaj Chetak, the iconic nameplate, which has been the choice of many middle-income riders for decades, has added another feather to its cap. The Chetak electric scooter has crossed the 7 lakh total sales in India, registering its name as one of the popular EVs in the segment. The Chetak's sales milestone speaks about its growing appeal in the electric commuter segment, and proves that a legacy brand can effectively pivot to modern technology without compromising on its image as a dependable family workhorse.
Going by the numbers shared by Vahan data, around 7.28 lakh units of the Chetak have been sold during the period of FY2021 and May 6, 2026. About 79% of these volumes, amounting to approx., 5.77 lakh units, were registered in the last two
years alone, indicating a strong increase in customer demand and popularity during this period for the Bajaj EV.
Bajaj Auto witnessed a major turnaround in Chetak's volumes from FY2025 onward. The company sold 2.39 lakh units in FY2025, registering a whopping 114% growth over 1.11 lakh units.
In FY2026, the Chetak sold 2.98 lakh units, showing a rise of 25% year-on-year. Bajaj Auto secured the position of India’s second-largest electric two-wheeler OEM for the first time, overtaking its several competitors, as well as highlighting the increasing acceptance of the Chetak among Indian buyers. Moreover, the consistent rise in sales of the Chetak has also contributed to significant market share gains for the brand over the period from FY2023 to FY2026, when the company had 20% market share.

Bajaj Chetak Electric Updated For 2026
Bajaj recently revised the Chetak electric scooter range in India with new features, enhanced performance, and a revised naming strategy. As part of the update, the lineup will now be sold under the new C25, C30, and C35 series. The top speeds have also been increased across the lineup, as well as the flagship model now produces 4.8kW of power for improved acceleration. Additionally, Bajaj has introduced features like Eco and Sport ride modes, hill-hold assist, and faster charging on select variants.
