The Toyota Hilux has long been one of the most iconic pickup trucks around the world, admired for its durability and go-anywhere attitude. But after nearly a decade without a full model change, it’s finally
getting a complete overhaul. The next-generation Hilux, expected to debut at the 2025 Thailand International Motor Expo, has once again been spotted testing, this time in Guatemala, revealing key details about its updated design.
Despite being under heavy camouflage, the latest spy shots show that Toyota isn’t messing with the Hilux’s core formula. The upcoming model appears to sit on an evolved version of the IMV platform, which also underpins the Fortuner. While the overall stance remains familiar, the front end has been extensively redesigned. It now features a flatter, more upright nose with a rectangular two-piece grille. The upper section sports a mesh pattern, while the lower one uses horizontal and vertical slats. Sleeker LED headlamps retain the boomerang outline but look sharper, likely connected by a thick chrome strip or even a full-width light bar.

The bumper has also been toughened up, ditching the faux skid plate in favour of what appears to be a genuine metal bash plate for added protection. In profile, the widebody look continues, with squared-off arches, new alloy wheels, and bold plastic cladding. Changes at the rear seem limited to new taillights and a redesigned tailgate handle, suggesting Toyota is saving the biggest transformation for the front and cabin.
Speaking of the interior, patent images leaked earlier this year hint at a major step up. Expect a new dashboard layout with a large floating touchscreen, likely around 12 inches, paired with a digital instrument cluster. The gear selector, steering wheel, and centre armrest are also set for redesigns. Features like powered and ventilated front seats, an electronic parking brake, a powered tailgate, and a head-up display could finally bring the Hilux’s cabin in line with modern rivals.

Under the hood, the 2.8-litre diesel engine is expected to continue, producing 204 bhp and up to 500 Nm of torque, possibly paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system in some markets. Global sales are expected to start in early 2026, with an India launch likely to follow later, where it will rival the Isuzu V-Cross and upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N pickup.
