Kia is brewing some exciting updated for its best-seller in India, the Sonet. The next-gen model is reportedly under the development, and is set to hit the Indian streets by 2027. For those unaware, Kia gave the Sonet a comprehensive makeover in 2024, making it more feature-rich with the addition of Level 1 ADAS. It also refreshed the lineup with more affordable automatic variants for both the diesel and turbo-petrol engine options earlier this year. Now, the Korean carmaker is preparing to give the generational update to the sub-4m SUV and bring it more line in with the design language seen on its bigger sibling, the Seltos. While the exact launch timeline is not yet revealed, the 2027 Kia Sonet is expected to carry a considerable premium over the existing
model, which starts at Rs 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom). Here are some of the changes expected on the new Sonet.
2027 Kia Sonet Design Changes
The upcoming second-generation Sonet will see several design changes, and the most significant of which will likely be the Seltos-inspired front. The grille is expected to be more wide, and integrated between the headlamps. The lighting setup will also likely be new, where the slim LED DRLs sit higher, similar to newer-generation Hyundai-Kia products. Sculpted lines on the bonnet, newly designed alloy wheels, and a panoramic sunroof are also likely to be part of the new packaging on the 2027 Kia Sonet.
2027 Kia Sonet New K1 Platform
The current-gen Kia Sonet is underpinned by the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform. While the official confirmation is still pending, the 2027 Kia Sonet is reported to ditch this architecture for the new K1 platform, which also underpins the Syros. The nedw and modern platform has a stronger structural frame that offers enhanced crash protection. It also supports modern technologies including over-the-air (OTA) updates and remote diagnostics.
It is worth noting that the K1 architecture is said to offer a 20mm longer wheelbase than the Sonet's existing platform. This means that the 2027 Kia Sonet will get rid of its most-cited shortcomings, which is limited rear seat space.
2027 Kia Sonet Engine and Features
Kia is unlikely to make any changes beyond the skin, which means the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines will remain as options.
