Tata Motors is set to finally launch the Safari and Harrier petrol variants in India. The launch will happen on December 9 and will mark a key shift in the brand's lineup. These models are expected to receive
the brand’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine from the ‘Hyperion’ family, debuting at a time when buyers are increasingly seeking petrol alternatives to diesel. With expected pricing positioned slightly below existing diesel models and gearboxes offering both manual and automatic options, the petrol Harrier and Safari aim to broaden appeal and fill a long-standing gap in Tata’s offering.

Under the hood of these SUVs, Tata will most probably be employing its recently developed 1.5-litre T-GDI (turbo-gasoline direct injection) four-cylinder petrol unit, capable of churning out a maximum power output of 167.6 hp and a peak torque of 280 Nm.
In the upcoming petrol-powered Harrier and Safari, the potential transmission choices could include a manual as well as an automatic one since Tata Motors has not confirmed what type of automatic gearbox will be used. The move is big for them, considering that these were purely diesel models for quite some time-now. This will also boost their marketability with more consumer demographics attracted.

The formal launch date of the new Safari and Harrier petrol variants is set for December 9, 2025. Price estimates suggest that the petrol Harrier shall commence slightly below the current diesel lineup, which begins at around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). Similarly, the petrol Safari is also expected to be priced below its diesel counterpart with its current range starting from approximately Rs 14.66 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing brings out a picture in which Tata Motors wants to position the petrol variants competitively so as to make them more accessible for buyers preferring mainstream petrol power.
