Maxi-scooters have a very niche market in India. The segment currently has a handful of models, including the Yamaha Aerox 155, Suzuki Burgman Street, and the Hero Xoom 160. While Honda sells more scooters in India than many of its competitors, it does not offer a maxi-style model yet. The most recent patent filing for the Airblade suggests that the brand is now planning to enter the segment and fill the gap. For the unversed, Honda already sells the Airblade in multiple international markets across 125cc and 160cc configurations. While the patent filing doesn't specify which variant will make its way to India, it is anticipated that the larger engine makes the stronger case. Let's dive into the key specifications of Honda's possible first maxi-scooter
in India.
Honda Airblade Design and Features
Compared to the typical looks of an urban scooter, the Honda Airblade looks more premium and performance-focused. As you can see in the patent design, the overall styling is edgy and the angular bodywork adds to the aggressive and sportier stance. The scooter features a central spine design with the fuel tank positioned in the middle. It gets projector LED headlamps, wide LED DRL and LED turn indicators, slim LED taillamps and a stepped up seat.
The Honda Airblade has a fully digital LCD instrument cluster, a smart key, single-channel ABS, telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers, a front disc and rear drum combination, and 14-inch alloy wheels. Despite of having a motorcycle-inspired central spine design, the Airblade meets practically needs with an underseat storage capacity of 23.2 litres.

Honda Airblade Engine and Weight
The Airblade 160 is powered by a 157cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 15hp and 14.8Nm. Compared to its potential rivals in India, the Aerox (14.5hp), and the Xoom (14hp), the Airblade makes more power and torque. It also steps ahead with a significant weight advantage. The Airblade weighs 113 kg, and is 13 kg lighter than the Aerox (126 kg) and 29 kg lighter than the Hero Xoom 160.
