The compact SUV segment in India is booming, and two of the most talked-about names are the Kia Syros and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Both are under four metres in length, modern features and designed for buyers
who want the “SUV feel” without spending too much money. But for someone who wants to buy their first suv, choosing between them can be confusing. Let’s have a look at the key differences.
Price
The Kia Syros starts at Rs 8.67 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it slightly on the premium side of the segment. Mahindra’s XUV 3XO starts at Rs 7,28,300 (ex-showroom) which makes it more accessible for budget-conscious buyers.

Engine Options and Performance
Both SUVs offer petrol and diesel engines. The Kia Syros gets a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 118 bhp and a 1.5-litre diesel with 114 bhp. Kia also offers a 7-speed DCT automatic, which feels very refined in city traffic.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO, on the other hand, is more performance-focused. Its petrol engines range from 111 bhp to 131 bhp, while the 1.5-litre diesel produces a strong 300 Nm of torque, which is great for highway driving and quick overtakes. Mahindra offers manual and automatic options.
Mileage
Fuel efficiency matters to most first-time buyers. The Syros delivers up to 18.2 kmpl (petrol) and 20.75 kmpl (diesel). The XUV 3XO goes slightly ahead as it delivers 20.1 kmpl (petrol) and 21.2 kmpl (diesel).
Space and Comfort
The Kia Syros has a major advantage with its 465-litre boot and sliding rear seats which makes it very family-friendly. The XUV 3XO offers a smaller 364-litre boot, but compensates with the longest wheelbase in the segment, which means better legroom.
Features and Technology
The Kia Syros feels more futuristic, offering a huge dual-screen setup, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and Level 2 ADAS (advanced safety tech that can assist with braking and lane control). The Mahindra XUV 3XO counters with dual 10.25-inch screens, a 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and also Level 2 ADAS on top variants.
Safety
Safety-conscious buyers will be happy to know that both SUVs have 5-star Bharat NCAP ratings and come with six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control and advanced braking systems.
If you want a premium, tech-loaded, comfortable SUV, the Kia Syros is the better pick. But if you prefer strong engines, great safety and better value for money, the Mahindra XUV 3XO makes a lot of sense.
