At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. pulled the covers off its latest creation which is the ‘Honda 0 α’ (alpha), a next-generation electric SUV prototype that shows where the future of Honda’s
electric cars is headed.
The production version of the Honda 0 α is planned to go on sale globally starting from 2027, mainly in Japan and India. This SUV is expected to compete with Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE6 and Maruti Suzuki eVitara in the Indian electric vehicle market.
This new model is part of Honda’s “0 Series,” which is built on three main ideas - “Thin, Light, and Wise,” which means cars that are sleek in design, lightweight for better efficiency and equipped with smart technology.
Philosophy
Honda says the 0 α has been designed as an SUV that “blends beautifully with both urban and natural environments.” It is meant to be a vehicle that supports people’s lives in every situation, whether that is commuting to work daily, taking a weekend trip or going on a family adventure.
The 0 α will join two other models from the same lineup which are the Honda 0 Saloon and the Honda 0 SUV. These models were first shown earlier this year at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. However, this new model will act as a “gateway” car, introducing more people to Honda’s next-generation EV family.
Design
The design of the 0 α follows Honda’s “Thin” philosophy. Engineers managed to keep the SUV’s height low, which improves aerodynamics and looks sporty, without compromising with ground clearance, so it can still handle bumpy roads. From the inside, the cabin remains spacious and comfortable which will offer plenty of room for passengers.
The exterior of this SUV also shows Honda’s futuristic approach. The car has screen areas at both the front and back, which is a fresh design element for modern EVs. At the front, the headlights, charging lid and illuminated Honda branding are all neatly built into one smooth panel. At the rear, a U-shaped light bar combines the tail lamps, reverse lights and turn signals which create a modern look that looks attractive.
