The recent GST 2.0 revision has brought significant relief for buyers of entry-level cars in India. Compact hatchbacks, which are among the most price-sensitive segments, have received substantial price cuts.
Two of the most popular options in this category are the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and the Renault Kwid. Here is how their updated prices compare after the new GST rates.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Prices After GST
The Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 continues to be offered in both petrol and CNG variants. Powering the car is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67.5 hp and 91.1 Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AGS (Automated Gear Shift). The CNG variants use the same engine but deliver a reduced output of 55.9 hp and 82.1 Nm of torque, paired only with a 5-speed manual.
Revised ex-showroom prices are as follows:
- Alto K10 Std: Rs 3.69 lakh
- Alto K10 LXi (O): Rs 3.99 lakh
- Alto K10 VXi (O): Rs 4.49 lakh
- Alto K10 VXi+ (O): Rs 4.99 lakh
- Alto K10 LXi (O) CNG: Rs 4.81 lakh
- Alto K10 VXi (O) CNG: Rs 5.31 lakh
Renault Kwid Prices After GST
Unlike the Alto K10, the Renault Kwid is offered only with petrol power. The hatchback is equipped with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
Updated ex-showroom prices are as follows:
- Kwid Authentic: Rs 4.29 lakh
- Kwid Evolution: Rs 4.66 lakh
- Kwid Evolution AMT: Rs 4.99 lakh
- Kwid Techno: Rs 4.99 lakh
- Kwid Climber: Rs 5.47 lakh
- Kwid Techno AMT: Rs 5.48 lakh
- Kwid Climber DT: Rs 5.58 lakh
- Kwid Climber AMT: Rs 5.88 lakh
- Kwid Climber AMT DT: Rs 5.99 lakh
Which One Makes More Sense?
The Alto K10 undercuts the Kwid with a lower starting price of Rs 3.69 lakh, making it the most affordable entry-level car on sale after GST. The Kwid, however, offers a broader variant lineup, more features in higher trims, and the option of an AMT across multiple versions. But the Alto K10 offers a CNG option.
