BMW is preparing to transform its entire lineup over the next two years by using the technology and design introduced with the iX3 and the Neue Klasse platform. The automaker has bold initiatives of more than 40 new or updated models scheduled to launch, each benefiting from BMW’s next-generation electronic architecture.
The Neue Klasse platform represents a “quantum leap” in automotive technology, according to Mike Reichelt, head of BMW’s Neue Klasse program, as he explained that the improvements are so significant that without updating the current lineup, BMW’s models would feel outdated compared to the iX3.
Unlike a full redesign, these updates would not change the body structure of existing models, but instead, BMW will combine the most advanced
aspects of the Neue Klasse, which is a refreshed design language, Panoramic iDrive system, advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS), AI-based features, and improved over-the-air software updates, the enhanced cybersecurity is also part of the upgrade.

The iX3 is BMW’s first software-defined vehicle which features four “superbrains” that dramatically simplify its computing systems. One superbrain handles vehicle dynamics, including drivetrain, brakes, steering, and energy recuperation which delivers ten times faster processing. Another superbrain manages driver-assist features, while the others control infotainment and comfort systems. This supersmart architecture reduces vehicle weight by 30% and eliminates over 2,000 feet of wiring.
Despite the digital focus, BMW is also keeping user-friendly elements, like traditional knobs and physical controls, which BMW enthusiasts still prefer for tasks like adjusting volume.
BMW has not revealed the exact timeline for these updates, but with 40 launches planned over 24 months, brand lovers can expect roughly one new or updated model every six weeks. This smart strategy shows BMW’s commitment for technology fusion with familiar driving comfort, ensuring the brand remains at the forefront of innovation while keeping its core identity alive.
For new car buyers and enthusiasts, this means the digital experience of the iX3 will soon become a standard across BMW’s range, which makes each model smarter, safer, and more connected than ever before.
