While flagship SUV models from carmakers always grab attention, it is more often the budget-friendly models that are the breadwinners for manufacturers. One highly competitive entry-level segment is the compact
SUV and Tata Motors has been leading the market with its Punch SUV. Launched first in 2021, the Punch has been a top-seller for the brand and even became India's top-selling car in 2024. Tata Motors has now confirmed that it will launch the next-generation of the Punch on January 13 and here are the top five updates that the teaser visuals have confirmed.
1. Turbo Petrol Engine:
The biggest update to the Punch SUV for 2026 would be the addition of a new engine option. The teaser confirms that the Punch would now come with an iTurbo engine. It can be assumed that it will be the turbocharged petrol engine that we have seen in the Nexon earlier, with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder specification.
2. 6-Speed Manual Transmission:
The visuals also confirm that the 2026 Punch will now offer the option of a 6-speed manual transmission. The new transmission would give the Punch better performance and efficiency at highway speeds.

3. Floating Touchscreen:
The new Punch would also get an upgraded touchscreen over the existing model. The teaser shows a floating touchscreen, which is presumably borrowed from the Punch EV and offers wireless smartphone connectivity and a 10.25-inch screen size.
4. Digital Dashboard:
The new Punch will also get a revamped instrument cluster that gets a TFT colour screen in the centre and digital displays on either side. The driver information suite includes a tachometer, engine temperature guage and a fuel level indicator.
5. New Exterior Design:
The 2026 Punch will also be significantly different in exterior design than the existing model. Taking cues from its elder siblings, the new Punch gets sharp LED DRLs on the front and connected LED taillamps on the rear. The LED headlamps will be vertically stacked and positioned in the lower part of the bumper, giving the Punch a 'Baby Nexon' appeal.
