Toyota Motor Corporation has showcased the all-new Land Cruiser FJ at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, presenting what it calls the “next chapter” of the Land Cruiser lineage. The SUV is positioned below
the Prado and 300 Series models and built on the 250 Series platform, targeting customers who want Land Cruiser durability and off-road capability in a more compact package. Retail rollout starts in Japan around mid-2026, with global markets to follow.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Design And Packaging Features
The Land Cruiser FJ features a compact body-on-frame architecture with a shorter wheelbase and tighter overhangs compared to its larger siblings. The styling incorporates boxy, squared-off panels and simple yet robust forms, recalling the brand’s off-road heritage. Toyota emphasises that the vehicle delivers “Freedom & Joy” through its design and functional capability. The body layout includes a raised ride height, visible structural elements, and an exterior spare wheel mount in many markets.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Off-Road Capability And Powertrain
The FJ retains off-road focus with the under-body structure and frame derived from past Land Cruiser models. Though official powertrain specs are not fully disclosed, Toyota mentions that this model retains the brand’s long-standing priorities of reliability and durability in challenging conditions. The SUV is set to use part-time four-wheel drive and rugged suspension components tuned for mixed road and off-road use.
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Technical Highlights
Powering the SUV is a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 161 hp of peak power and 246 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive setup. Drive modes and enhanced structural rigidity are also part of the package, offering a balance between daily driving and uncompromised off-road performance. As mentioned before, the FJ will sit between the larger 250 Series and existing Prado derivatives in terms of size and capability.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Market Timing And Global Strategy
Toyota plans to launch the Land Cruiser FJ in Japan in mid-2026. Other markets like Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America will receive the model later, while Europe and North America may not get it. The strategy appears to focus on emerging and specialist markets where compact, capable 4×4 SUVs remain valuable.
