The rise in drone-based smuggling and cross-border aerial threats has pushed India to rethink its security strategy. In response, a Hyderabad-based startup Indrajaal Drone Defence has unveiled the Indrajaal Ranger,
the nation’s first fully mobile, AI-enabled anti-drone patrol vehicle. This system brings real-time detection, tracking and neutralisation of hostile drones while on the move. This is a major shift from older, fixed anti-drone systems. The Ranger is built to patrol borders, urban zones, and critical infrastructure areas, offering a new line of defense against evolving drone threats.

Indrajaal Ranger: An Overview
The Indrajaal Ranger is designed as a purpose-built counter-UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) platform mounted on a rugged all-terrain 4×4 chassis. Unlike traditional stationary anti-drone defenses, this vehicle can patrol in motion, enabling broader coverage across border roads, canal belts, sensitive infrastructure, and urban sectors. It gives security forces mobility and agility in intercepting drone threats across varied terrain.
How The AI-Powered System Works
At the heart of the Ranger is an AI-driven detection and command platform that fuses multi-sensor inputs like radar, RF detection, and autonomous threat assessment algorithms. The system can detect hostile drones from as far as 10 km, then track and mitigate threats within a roughly 4 km neutralisation range. Upon detection, the system instantly triggers mitigation measures, including RF-jamming, GNSS-spoofing, cyber takeover as well as interceptor drones.
Why It Matters For India’s Security
Drone-based smuggling of narcotics, weapons and explosives has surged along India’s borders in recent months, prompting urgent demand for robust counter-drone solutions. The Ranger claims to offer a game-changing response by reducing dependence on manpower-intensive static defences, enabling on-the-move patrolling, and providing real-time interception. For border security agencies and urban law enforcement, this means faster reaction times and reduced risk of infiltration through hostile drones.

What's Next For Deployment
Indrajaal has launched the Ranger now, but its deployment timeline across different states and border zones depends on security agency requirements and terrain. Given the flexibility of the system, it’s likely to be rolled out first in high-risk border districts and areas vulnerable to drone smuggling or aerial infiltration. As India continues to modernise its defence infrastructure, the Ranger could become a key component of counter-UAV strategy.
