Though the rapid growth of SUVs in India has affected the long-standing charm of sedans, the sales of April 2026 proved that the segment still enjoy a loyal customer base. A handful of models from manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Volkswagen, managed to achieve good sales figures, highlighting their strong brand loyalty, as well as, value-driven buying decisions of Indian car buyers. Here’s a look at the sedans that made their presence felt last month on the sales chart.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire (23,580 Units)
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire made it clear that it is India's undisputed sedan king, with sales of 23,580 units in April 2026, which shows an increase 38.7% from 16,996 units sold during the same period last year. What’s worthy to note is that the Dzire alone accounted
for a massive 67% of total sedan segment volumes.
Hyundai Aura (4,587 Units)
Hyundai Aura secured second place in the sedan rankings with 4,587 units sold in April 2026, a growth of 8.6% YoY. It remains the go-to choice for buyers who want a boot-equipped car with the running costs of a small hatchback.
Honda Amaze (2,856 Units)
Honda sold 2,856 units of the Amaze in April 2026, which exhibits a 41.5% growth over last year. The second-generation Amaze has matured into one of the best-rounded compact sedans in the market. Volkswagen Virtus (1,162 Units)
The Volkswagen Virtus recorded 1,162 units in April 2026, a decline of 27.6% year-on-year. In a segment increasingly under pressure from SUVs at similar price points, the Virtus holds its ground by offering a genuinely driver-focused experience.
Tata Tigor (962 Units)
Despite facing a year-on-year decline of 25.8%, the Tata Tigor maintained its appeal among car buyers last month as one of India's most affordable sedans. The car serves as a popular fleet and cab aggregator option. While falling retail numbers give peek into consistently changing consumer preferences, the Tigor manages to find steady buyers among private as well as corporate fleet managers who appreciate the Tata sedan's low running costs and competitive service expenses.
Hyundai Verna (865 Units)
The sales of the Hyundai Verna declined 13.9% year-on-year to 865 units in April 2026.
