Jeep has opened European orders for the new Compass 4xe, an all-electric, all-wheel-drive version of the SUV producing 375hp and over 600km of WLTP range. That's a meaningful jump for anyone tracking how electric SUVs are evolving globally since most EVs at this size still rely on a single motor. This one uses two and Jeep has built the whole thing around proving an EV can still genuinely off-road.
How Does the Dual-Motor Setup Actually Work?
The Jeep Compass 4xe runs two separate electric drive motors, one putting out 210.5 hp at the front and a second, Jeep-specific 177 hp unit at the rear, giving each axle independent traction control. That rear motor is paired with a 14:1 reduction gear which lets the car generate up to 3,100 Nm at the rear wheels and climb a 20% slope even with zero
grip on the front axle. A 96.1kWh usable battery feeds the system with Jeep claiming a 20-80% recharge in just 27 minutes. Ground clearance has also gone up by 10mm over the regular Compass, with the SUV now managing a 28-degree approach angle, 17-degree breakover angle, 31-degree departure angle and water fording depth of up to 480mm.
Is This Actually Going to Reach Indian Buyers?
Not anytime soon, at least not based on what's confirmed so far. This Compass 4xe is built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform out of Jeep's Melfi plant in Italy and orders have only opened across European markets, not India. Jeep's India lineup doesn't currently include an electric Compass variant, so this launch is more useful as a benchmark for where electric SUV tech is headed globally than as something to wait for locally. If you're shopping in India right now, the relevant comparison points stay the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 as well as Tata Harrier EV, all of which already offer AWD or all-electric options at home.
What Else Comes With the Updated Compass Lineup?
Alongside the 4xe, Jeep has also opened orders for a front-wheel-drive Long Range BEV variant rated at 674km, using the same 96.3kWh battery family but tuned for efficiency over outright power, producing 231 hp. Both versions get Jeep's Selec-Terrain system with five drive modes and Level 2 driver assistance as standard while the 4xe specifically adds a 4WD Lock mode for low-traction conditions. None of these changes affect the regular Compass currently sold in India, which continues with its existing ICE and hybrid powertrains.
