Weeks after Mercedes-Benz unveiled the all-new GLC Electric with a massive backlit front grille, we now get a glimpse into what the brand is planning for the next-generation S-Class. In the latest teaser images shared by Gorden Wagener, Chief Designer at Mercedes-Benz Group, we get our first look at what the new S-Class design will be based on.

Without revealing too much, the image clearly highlights a massive front grille that is backlit, similar to the new GLC Electric, although this one is even bigger. Even the Mercedes-Benz hood ornament appears to be illuminated. The grille is flanked by headlamp units that sport the latest-generation three-pointed LED
DRLs, which are a signature element of the brand's latest design language.
Based on Wagener's post, it can be speculated that the vehicle in these mysterious images could be the next-generation S-Class two-door Coupe or Convertible. However, the biggest takeaway from the massive backlit grille is that the new vehicle would likely be an all-electric car.
The teaser image could also be treated as a precursor to an all-new S-Class Saloon from Mercedes-Benz, something that would kick up trouble for its rival, BMW, which currently has its 7-series and i7 line of luxury saloons in the segment.
While the idea of having a massive backlit front grille might be based on previous Vision concepts from Mercedes-Benz, it is also an homage to the S-Class legacy that includes flagships like the W100 from the 1960s, the W111, W112 and several other S-Class ancestors. This can be seen when taking a closer look at the new grille's integrated design patterns.
While Mercedes-Benz has not announced when it will reveal the new car or concept to the world, we expect an official debut soon. This is based on Wagener's teaser image post, in which he wrote, 'That iconic grille we introduced at IAA in Munich? Consider it the spark for a creative impulse. Get ready for what’s next.' The IAA Munich reference was for the new GLC Electric that was unveiled to showcase the next generation of all-electric technology and design from the brand.
