BYD’s luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, has just redrafted the record books with its new U9 Xtreme hypercar, which reached a mind-blowing 496 kmph, which is also 308.4 mph at a test track in Germany on September 14 and that is faster than any other production car in the world, beating even petrol-powered speed beasts.
The U9 Xtreme, which is also called U9X, is an upgraded version of Yangwang’s existing U9, which is already sold in China. Brand engineers gave it more power, better tyres, and a suspension system designed for extreme track conditions. And the result is a car that doesn’t just look fast but actually is the fastest car available in the world.

Here’s the technology behind
this super beast:
- Power: Four electric motors which spin at up to 30,000 rpm, producing over 3000PS combined.
- Battery: A special lithium iron phosphate “Blade Battery” that can release energy in no time.
- Electric System: Upgraded from 800V to 1200V, this electric system helps the car to handle huge amounts of electricity for top performance.
- Tyres & Suspension: Special semi-slick tyres and a new suspension setup which is DiSus-X make sure the car sticks to the track even at extremely high speeds.
Yangwang is making just 30 units of this beast, making it as rare as it is fast. The “X” in its name stands for exploration which is a nod to pushing the limits of what’s possible.

BYD’s executive vice president, Stella Li, said, “This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone in the research and development division. Yangwang is a brand that does not recognise the impossible, and only through this commitment to what’s coming next can you end up with a vehicle like the U9X. I extend my gratitude to the whole team, and my thanks to the driver, Marc Basseng, for his skill and technical input. It’s terrific that the fastest production car in the world is now electric.”
The U9 Xtreme is more than a car; it is a statement. Electric vehicles are no longer just about quiet city driving, but they can dominate tracks, challenge old records, and thrill speed enthusiasts worldwide. With this achievement, we can assume that the future of hypercars is electric, fast, and extreme.
