Mahindra has recently expanded its Born Electric range of EVs with a 7-seater option called the XEV 9S. This electric SUV sits between the brand's BE 6 and XEV 9e, electric SUV lineup and aims to fill
the gap by offering a more practical alternative for families. At the launch, Mahindra announced the XEV 9S will be available in four different variants with a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh ex-showroom.

At this price point, the XEV 9S rivals its siblings along with other popular electric cars from the lower segments as well. Here's a detailed description of what tech, features, battery and range options you get from the base 'Pack ONE Above' variant of the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Mahindra XEV 9S Base Variant Design:
The XEV 9S Pack ONE Above is largely identical to the top-end Pack THREE Above variant, including the panoramic sunroof. This means that it gets close-to-top exterior design, LED lighting and aesthetics. When compared to higher variants, the base variant XEV 9S misses out on the sequential turn indicators, start-up and goodbye animations, puddle lamps and electric flush door handles. One key visual difference will be the 18-inch stylised wheels instead of the alloy wheels that higher variants get.
Interior Changes in Mahindra XEV 9S Base Variant:
Inside the cabin, things are quite luxurious in the XEV 9S from the base Pack ONE Above variant itself. It still gets the panoramic sunroof and the coast-to-coast panoramic triple screen setup. However, it misses out on the leatherette seats, ambient lighting, premium audio system, augmented reality HUD, ventilated seats and other high-end features. The 5G vehicle connectivity, OTA updates and over 50 built-in OTT apps are available from the most affordable variant of the XEV 9S.
XEV 9S Base Variant Performance Specs:
Interestingly, the base Pack ONE Above XEV 9S is available in two different battery packs, the 59 kWh and the largest 79 kWh option. This means that buyers who want maximum range at minimum cost do not need to spend more for the larger battery pack. Additionally, the XEV 9S delivers a claimed 521 km range from the smaller battery and 679 km range from the larger battery pack.
In terms of performance, the 59 kWh version produces 227 hp and the 79 kWh version produces 281 hp from the electric motor. Both generate an identical 380 Nm torque figure, sent instantly to the rear wheels.
Considering that other factors like fast-charging of up to 11.2 kW remain the same across variants, the value proposition of the base variant XEV 9S at Rs 19.95 lakh ex-showroom sounds pretty solid. Mahindra also hopes that the attractive price and specs would attract fleet owners towards the XEV 9S and help the brand achieve its target of 7,000 EV sales per month by the end of FY 2025.
