Tata Motors has launched the Altroz iCNG AMT in India at a starting price of Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it the country’s first premium hatchback to offer a factory-fitted CNG powertrain with an automatic transmission. The new AMT option has been introduced across five variants, with prices going up to about Rs 10.77 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec Accomplished S trim. With this move, Tata Motors is targeting urban buyers who want the lower running costs of CNG but are unwilling to compromise on convenience during daily traffic-heavy commutes. The Altroz lineup now spans petrol, diesel and CNG powertrains along with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

Tata Altroz iCNG AMT Engine, Power And Twin-Cylinder Setup
Powering the Tata Altroz
iCNG AMT is Tata’s 1.2-litre Revotron engine, which produces 72.5 hp and 103 Nm while running on CNG. The engine is now paired with an AMT gearbox for the first time in the Altroz CNG range. According to Tata Motors, the setup has been developed to improve ease of driving, particularly in stop-and-go city traffic conditions.
One of the biggest talking points continues to be Tata’s twin-cylinder iCNG technology. Instead of placing one large cylinder inside the boot, the system uses two smaller cylinders positioned beneath the luggage floor. That layout helps free up usable storage space, something many buyers still complain about in traditional CNG cars.
Tata claims the Altroz iCNG AMT offers 210 litres of boot capacity even in CNG mode, while the petrol and diesel versions provide 345 litres. The hatchback also supports direct start in CNG mode, eliminating the need to start the car in petrol first before switching fuels. The company additionally mentions a single ECU system that manages smoother transitions between petrol and CNG operation during driving.

Features, Safety And Variant-Wise Pricing
The Altroz iCNG AMT carries the same updated styling seen on the latest Altroz range including flush-fitting door handles, connected LED taillamps and LED headlamps with DRLs.
Inside, the hatchback gets dual 10.24-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, ambient lighting along with rear lounge-style seating.
Safety remains a major focus area for the Altroz lineup. Built on Tata’s ALFA architecture using ultra-high-strength steel, the hatchback carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel and CNG versions. Standard safety kit includes six airbags, ESP, ISOFIX mounts and reverse parking sensors while higher variants also get a 360-degree camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
