Honda Cars India is preparing to expand its hybrid vehicle lineup in the country, with the Elevate SUV expected to be the next model to receive an electrified powertrain. The development comes as part of Honda’s broader strategy to introduce multiple powertrain options in India, including internal combustion engines, hybrids, and fully electric vehicles, to meet diverse customer needs.
Currently, the City sedan is the only model in Honda’s Indian portfolio available with a hybrid variant. However, the company has confirmed plans to consolidate and expand its hybrid offerings in the near future. “The company will have products with multiple powertrains, including ICE, hybrid, and full electric, to cater to varied customer requirements in India,”
Honda stated.

Honda Cars India President and CEO Takashi Nakajima reiterated that hybrids will play a key role in Honda’s India strategy, especially as the market transitions gradually towards electrification. He said the company is considering a mix of models to increase sales volumes while also offering premium, technology-rich options.
Globally, Honda has been accelerating its electrification push with several new hybrid and EV products. In India, the upcoming hybrid Elevate is expected to share its powertrain technology with the City e:HEV, pairing a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an electric motor.
Honda also plans to produce its next-generation electric vehicle, the Honda 0 Alpha, in India. The EV will debut in 2027 and will also be exported to Japan and other Asian countries. This move aligns with Honda’s goal of transforming India into a key production and export hub for electrified models.
