Which Challans Qualify For Lok Adalat?
Lok Adalat sessions only accept minor, compoundable traffic offences for waiver or reduced fines. These typically include violations such as riding without a helmet or driving without a seat belt, overspeeding, wrong or illegal parking, jumping a red light, missing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, driving without a valid licence or number plate, or having incorrect or wrongly issued challans.
However, it is important to note that serious, non-compoundable offences like drunk driving, hit-and-run incidents, accidents causing injury or death, or cases already filed in court, will not be eligible.
Which Documents To Carry?
To have your challan cleared successfully, you will need to bring the following documents:
- The original e-challan or traffic notice / fine receipt, or a printed copy if issued online.
- Valid vehicle registration certificate (RC) (original and photocopy).
- Your driving licence (DL) (original and copy).
- A government-issued photo identity proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.).
- The appointment letter / registration token issued after completing the online Lok Adalat registration (if applicable in your state).
It is wise to carry both originals and photocopies and ensure the documents are clear and legible.
How To Register And Get Your Slot
- Visit your state traffic police or legal-services authority’s official website. For example, in Delhi, registration for Lok Adalat is done via the official traffic portal.

- Submit the form and download/print the token number or appointment slip. This confirms your hearing time, venue and eligibility.
