Bajaj Auto is all set to expand its electric scooter lineup with the launch of a new Bajaj Chetak EV variant on January 14, 2026. This upcoming electric version is expected to be more affordable and mass-market focused, which makes electric mobility easier to access for everyday riders.
New Chetak EV Variant - Why This Matters
The Bajaj Chetak has already built a strong reputation as a premium, solidly built electric scooter with a classic design. However, its higher price has kept some buyers away, but with this new variant, Bajaj aims to bring the Chetak name to a wider audience as this new model is expected to sit below the existing Chetak variants.

New Chetak EV Variant - Expected Pricing
While the official price will be revealed at launch, we
expect the new Bajaj Chetak EV could be priced in the Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 range (ex-showroom), as the current Chetak models are priced between Rs 99,500 and Rs 1.22 lakh. A lower price could make the Chetak more attractive to daily commuters, students and families looking for an affordable two wheeler.
New Chetak EV Variant - Design Changes
Bajaj is not expected to change the Chetak’s identity, as the scooter will likely retain its retro-inspired metal body, which is one of its biggest strengths. However, teaser images suggest subtle design tweaks, including a new single horizontal LED taillight and repositioned indicators. There is also talk of lighter body panels, which could help reduce weight and improve efficiency.
New Chetak EV Variant - Features and Hardware
To keep costs in check, the new variant is expected to get a simpler feature set. This may include a basic LCD instrument console, simpler switchgear and fewer connected features compared to higher trims.
Mechanically, Bajaj may switch to a hub-mounted motor instead of the mid-mounted motor used in premium variants. The suspension setup is expected to include a standard telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers.
New Chetak EV Variant - Battery, Motor and Range Expectations
Bajaj has not officially shared battery details yet, but the new Chetak EV is expected to offer a real-world riding range of around 80–90 km. This makes it ideal for daily city commuting, office runs and local rides.
