Maruti Suzuki retained its position as the best-selling car brand in June 2026, with over 1.47 lakh units sold. It was followed by Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, Toyota, Kia and MG on the sales chart. Overall, the passenger vehicle market share rose by a strong 25.8% year-on-year. The industry saw 3.92 lakh units sold in the month of June this year, compared to 3.12 lakh units sold last year. Here's a look at how the five best-selling carmakers performed during the month.
Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki continued as the largest passenger vehicle brand in June 2026 with sales of 1.47 lakh units, a commanding rise of 23.8% YoY. The brand had a 37.6% market share. On a month-over-month basis, Maruti Suzuki's sales dropped 22.7% compared to 1.90 lakh units retailed
in May 2026, making it the sharpest month-on-month decline among the top five brands.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors secured the second position with 62,076 units sold during June 2026. The homegrown automaker posted a gain of 67.4% YoY, one of the strongest among major manufacturers, compared to 37,083 units sold a year ago. It also showed a 5.1% MoM rise over May's 59,090 units. The Nexon manufacturer captured 15.8% of the overall passenger vehicle market during the month.
Mahindra
Mahindra finished close behind Tata Motors with 60,393 units, exhibiting a 15.4% market share. It registered a 46.9% YoY growth from 41,108 units sold in June 2025. On a month-over-month basis, the SUV manufacturer's sales improved by 4.1% from 58,021 units in May.
Hyundai
Hyundai ranked fourth on the sales chart with 39,635 units sold, which helped it account for 10.1% of the market. Unlike most leading manufacturers, the Korean carmaker saw a 10% YoY decline, while its sales also dropped 17.1% compared to May 2026.
Toyota
Toyota was the fifth best-selling car brand last month with 28,441 units. It had a 7.5% YoY growth and a 7.3% market share. While the brand experienced a positive annual growth over 26,453 units sold in June 2025, the carmaker's sales declined 7% from 30,574 units sold in May.
Other Carmakers
As for the remaining car brands, Kia retained the sixth position with 24,552 units, posting a 19% YoY growth despite an 11% monthly decline. MG Motor India delivered 7,568 units, recording nearly 30% YoY growth, while Skoda sold 6,220 units, up 24.1% year-on-year. Honda sold 5,243 units, followed by Renault with 4,063 units, which registered a strong 54.8% YoY increase. Nissan emerged as the fastest-growing brand in percentage terms, as it sales surged 128.9% to 3,006 units. Volkswagen reported 2,467 units, a decline of 20.1% year-on-year. Citroen posted sales of 877 units; Jeep retailed 240 units.
