Toyota has issued a nationwide recall for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, following reports of an inaccurate fuel-level display on select units of the compact SUV. The company has initiated a voluntary inspection and replacement programme targeting 11,529 vehicles built between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025.
The issue stems from the analogue instrument cluster, which may fail to show the correct fuel level. In some cases, the low-fuel warning might not light up even when the tank is running dry. Toyota says this could increase the risk of the vehicle stalling, and has decided to replace the affected part free of cost. Owners will be contacted directly by authorised dealers to schedule an inspection. Customers can check whether their vehicle is part of the recall
by entering the VIN on Toyota’s official website or by contacting their nearest dealership.

This recall closely follows a similar announcement from Maruti Suzuki for the Grand Vitara, which shares its platform and powertrains with the Hyryder. Both SUVs run identical hardware, and the faulty fuel-gauge component appears to affect only the variants that use the analogue cluster. Trims equipped with the digital instrument display, including select strong-hybrid versions, are not part of the recall.

The Hyryder is available with three engine choices: a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol, a 1.5-litre CNG option, and the strong-hybrid system that pairs a petrol engine with an electric motor and on-board battery. The mild-hybrid produces 101 bhp and 136.8 Nm, with manual, automatic and even all-wheel-drive options depending on the variant. CNG variants are manual-only, while the strong-hybrid line-up comes exclusively with an e-CVT and delivers an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of up to 27.97 km/l, among the highest in the segment.
